| How can I place my own files onto the web for viewing by others? | |
|
These instructions will provide you with the necessary steps to copy or move files to a directory on the web. These files can be then made available for viewing at any time. 1. Open an internet session using a web browser that is capable of using FTP. Microsoft Internet Explorer is one such browser, and will be used as the example in this instruction. 2. In the address line, type the address of your FTP server (if you do not have this address contact your web site administrator).
3. In the box, type the user name and password given to you by your web administrator for FTP access, and click "Log On".
4. From the "File" menu, select "Logon As...". Re-Type in your User Name and Password the same as you did in Step 3 above. 5. You will be shown a list of the files currently in the web file (this will be empty the first time you view the file). You are now ready to begin copying files to this directory.
6. Open the directory on your computer containing the files that you want to upload.
7. Simply click and drag the directory and/or files from your computer to the web folder (caution should be taken to make sure that you do not put so many files to the web that you exceed your allotted web space). 8. To view the files that you have now placed in the web site, type in the complete web address of the file (or click on the link from within your site). The file index will be displayed similar to as shown here. Click on any one of the files to view it.
